Local Markets

Most markets in Mallorca are held in the morning. Try to arrive before 10.30am because many markets are all finished and packed up by 1.30pm.

Every Wednesday, a large street market is held in the centre of nearby Andratx.

There's usually a good selection of locally produced fruit, vegetables and crafts on offer, along with a selection of other Mallorcan products including flowers and clothes etc.

Special market buses are always laid from the larger south coast resorts throughout the day, although these are always very full by the time they arrive at the market.

So, if there are a number of you that can travel together it's often worth considering taking a taxi for the short trip.

A traditional Mallorcan market is also held every Monday along the Calle Major, close to the Parish Church of San Juan, in the town of Calvia. This market consists of more than 60 stalls, offering a variety of goods including food stalls, clothing, shoes and traditional craftsmanship.

Another market worth visiting if you have time is the one through the streets of Palma (on the 'Avenidas') on a Saturday morning. Bargains to be had are lace tablecloths and leather handbags, but do try to haggle over the price.

If you have access to a car, or fancy a half day organised excursion, the biggest and most famous weekly market on Mallorca is held every Thursday morning around the streets of Inca. Although also selling a wide selection of other goods, Inca market is most famous for its leather goods, so expect to find a wide selection of leather shoes, bags and jackets.

Some of the island's other markets you may wish to visit are held on the following days:

Monday Manacor
Tuesday Alcudia - Arta
Wednesday Santanyi - Lluchmajor - Andraitx - Puerto Pollensa - Sa Coma (pm - Summer only)
Thursday Inca - Campos
Friday Son Servera - C'an Picafort
Saturday Palma - Santanyi - Campos - Soller
Sunday Alcudia - Porto Cristo - Felanitx

BEWARE of pickpockets at markets just as you would back home!
